Refer a friend scheme

Receive £500 when you refer a friend to foster with Fostering Devon.

If you are passionate about what you do, and can think of a friend or family member who would be a great foster carer, why don’t you tell them about our refer a friend scheme?

You could receive up to £500 for every person you refer if they become an approved foster carer for Fostering Devon.

How it works

Share the good news with people you think would be great carers. Tell your friend or relative about how rewarding it is to be a foster carer for Fostering Devon and why you think that they would make such a great candidate.

Once they get in touch, a member of the team will talk them through the next steps and see if fostering is right for them.

Who can foster?

There is no typical foster carer – whether married or divorced, living with a partner or single, gay, lesbian or transgender. Foster carers come from all walks of life, and we welcome people from all religions, races, genders and sexual orientations.

We are looking for a mix of local foster carers and ones a little further afield. If someone is over 21 and has the energy, patience and understanding, and a spare room in their house, we would love to hear from them.

Please make sure you only refer people who meet the basic criteria. They need to:

  • be over 21
  • live permanently in the UK
  • be able to pass a criminal record check (DBS check)
  • have a spare room

How to contact us

Tell the person you’re referring to visit our contact us page. They can contact us via email, phone or request a call back from our centralised recruitment hub, Fostering South West.

Remind them to make sure they mention that this is a referral on the initial call or email.

Host a refer a friend coffee morning

So, you have loads of friends or family who might be interested in fostering. Why not host a coffee morning (or evening) and invite your friends and family?

You can provide the venue, a warm welcome and a room full of people potentially interested in fostering. We will provide the coffee and the cakes and someone to talk about fostering and the process of becoming a foster carer. In return, your friends and family can gain a better understanding of what you do, and any potential new carers would be dealt with under the refer a friend scheme.
