It was fantastic to see our Mockingbird families featured on ITV News West Country talking about the impact of the first Mockingbird constellation in Devon.
This evidence-based model, led by the Fostering Network, has been brought in to help improve the stability of fostering placements, and strengthen the relationships between carers, children and young people, fostering services and birth families.
The feature showed members of our Mockingbird constellation meeting at the Home Hub Carer’s house, spending time together, and sharing how Mockingbird has supported their families. It featured interviews with our Hub Carer, Sarah, as well as Councillor Andrew Leadbetter, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, and also conversations with some of our wonderful foster parents, Kate, Ann-Marie and Rebecca.
“There’s so many positives to fostering. And I always try to tell that to people, that whilst there are so many reasons to say ‘no’, there’s a thousand reasons to say ‘yes’. And showing people that there’s that support network, so if that’s what they’re scared of about fostering, you have that support. I think Mockingbird needs to be out there so much more… just for the fact that we need so many more foster carers. There’s too many children that need foster homes.”
